Too busy to blog, but here’s some great info every chic should know:

Ultimate Anatomy Guide

Progress

August 6th, 2010 by Ruth Rambling

I don’t think it’s even been a week, but I’m up to 45 g in the Aquaflex cone. I think I might go up another 5 g today since the last few times the cone keeps moving up deeper than I think it’s supposed to to work the pelvic floor muscles. Part of that may be I’m moving around too much.

I’ve also taken to starting out in the shower with it – I figure I’m mostly stationary at this point and it kills 2 birds with one stone. Although the first time I did this, I was still cat-sitting and the drain cap in the shower was loose and would slide off to the side every time my foot touched it. I kept thinking, “What if it falls out and down the drain?” How would I explain to this dude, who is twenty years older than me, that my vaginal weight fell into his shower drain? What if I couldn’t get it back?

In other news, the STBX is moving out today and into his new apartment. It’s been very sad. I am the one that wanted the divorce, but it’s not as though I hate him or anything. We are very good friends and the end of this twelve-year relationship is really hard on me, too. Something some of our “mutual friends” don’t seem to understand. It’s amazing what bad advice people will give to someone who is going through divorce. I’m thankful that my friends and family have been supportive of both of us.

Finally, specifics…

July 31st, 2010 by Ruth Rambling

On a whim, I searched for “kegel exercises” again and finally stumbled upon a page with more specifics as far as reps and sets. Here’s the link: http://www.wdxcyber.com/kegel.htm

Right now I’m taking a break from watching the Pirates movies (which I’ve never seen before today) and drinking Arrogant Bastard, brewed by the Stone Brewery. I’m on my last night of cat-sitting. The sun is going down, making the sky all pretty with the hills and the harbor and the red glow on the clouds… Too bad this house is all tore up. It would have been nice to have a friend over for drinks and dinner.

The STBX is out of town so I’m missing the opportunity to be at home alone with my own kitties. But he’s moving out next weekend, so I’ll have plenty of alone time soon. Good? Yes. But also a little lonely… Divorce sucks, but sometimes you have to close one chapter of your life so another can begin.

I’m drunk…

Impressed with myself…

July 31st, 2010 by Ruth Rambling

Well, color me impressed… with myself! I tried out the Aquaflex Vaginal Weight System this morning and I didn’t have to start with the large cone which is the beginner size. My pelvic floor muscles are stronger than I thought, I guess. I started with the small cone and was able to use 35 g of weight for the half hour I kept it in – while walking around and packing up books.

The Aquaflex system comes with two sizes of cones and 2 20 g weights, 1 10 g weight and 1 5 g weight so that you can incrementally increase the weight and thus the resistance to your pelvic floor muscles. They recommend that you build up to walking around, but I didn’t want to have to stand in one place for 20 minutes so I started with a weight that I could move around with.

So today is day one and they say that it takes 8 to 12 weeks for noticeable improvement using the cones every day. Then you only have to use them once or twice a week. I think when I can have all the weights in place, I’ll switch to Ben Wa balls that are smaller than the small cone size to keep working it. Also, since I’m apparently in better shape than I thought, I’ll start the Tantric manipulation exercises when I can get a proper “tool.”

Although increased sexual pleasure for both partners is a nice result of strong pelvic floor muscles, it also helps correct and prevent stress incontinence – which thankfully I do not suffer from. But prevention is better than having to cure a problem, so at least I’m doing something good for my health – and whenever I get to have sex again that will better, too – I hope.

Speaking of Kegel exercises…

July 30th, 2010 by Ruth Rambling

Wow, did I get ripped. So I bought this little number at the Lover’s Package for $45… And here I find it on Amazon for only $23! Well, I don’t think I’ll be doing a video review of it. Frankly, I find Dr. Laura Berman’s Weighted Pelvic Exerciser to be more trouble than it’s worth. Especially since I forked out $45…

Who wants to stand around holding a knobby, plastic toy in their twat for 20 or more minutes? I’m busy and that’s time I could be doing other things, like grooming my pussy… Cat, that is… Plus the instructions tell you to start with the small end which makes no sense to me…

The thing is, from what I’ve read, pelvic exercisers supposedly help you get your pelvic floor muscles in shape faster than the Kegel exercises alone. So I bought this thing when I actually went to the LP to buy a “cylinder” for some of the manipulation exercises Andre describes in his book, Tantra: The Cult of the Feminine. When I told the sales girl what I was after, she showed me Dr. Berman’s Weighted Pelvic Exerciser – which I bought instead. I should have gone for the dildo…

I did a little more internet research into exercisers later and found the “Aquaflex Vaginal Weight System.” The only weird thing is it seems to be marketed through lots of different sites by the same company. I bought it anyway, thinking since you could adjust the weights it may be more effective and versatile than just getting Ben Wa balls. I received my Aquaflex system yesterday and will try them out tomorrow. More on those soon…

I’d also like to point out that the Mula Bandha (see previous post) strengthens different muscles than Kegel exercises do. So it’s probably a good thing to do both, I’m thinking.

The Mula Bandha

July 24th, 2010 by Ruth Rambling

I wanted to be writing this at my weekend retreat overlooking Boston Harbor… Instead, I am sitting at a local coffee shop so I can use their wi-fi and suck down some caffeine. The house for the weekend retreat isn’t really mine – I’m cat-sitting for a friend while he’s off to guitar camp. He enticed me with a place where I could retreat to when I needed space and solace. I got paint fumes and carpenters and his ex-wife coming to collect her things – and a very stinky litter box.

But I promised an exercise for both men and women in this post and here it goes. This is from the book, Tantra: The Cult of the Feminine by Andre Van Lysebeth (pp. 330 – 331). Andre may be a fab yoga instructor and tantric lover, but his writing is so-so… I’ll try to make it a bit more clear in this post.

There are a whole group of vaginal exercises to strengthen and train the vagina. The first (and according to Andre the best) is called the Mula Bandha. These exercises can be done by men as well (remember – stronger, longer-lasting erections, boys!). The illustration (below) is that of the female bits, but the muscles are the same for men. Instructions for performing Kegel exercises say you should empty your bladder first – so I’m gonna give the same advice here.

The Mula Bandha can be described as though you were trying to suck your anus up into your body. The muscles controlling the anal and vaginal sphincters are like the loops of a figure eight. By contracting one, the other immediately follows.

Do this exercise while sitting and breathing slowly and regularly. First, lightly begin to constrict the exterior anal sphincter. While you do this, center the mind at the junction of both loops, the perineum. Then continue to constrict your anus until the interior sphincter contracts. (You can feel it.) Continue to constrict the levator ani muscle and it will feel as though your anus is being pulled up into your body. It feels like trying to hold it in when you have to poop really bad.

Hold the contraction for five to ten seconds then release slowly while exhaling. You should repeat the process at least five times, resting for an equal amount of time between contractions. Regular, daily practice will benefit you faster than sporadic attempts. Besides, it gives you something productive to do on your commute to work!

Even on the first try you will be able to feel the separate muscles working – just proceed slowly and focus on what you are doing. As with any exercise, you get better results if you put your attention on the muscles you are working. Also, if you don’t let your mind wander, you’ll feel a pleasant warmth will be felt at the base of the spine and into the lumbar region. With continued practice, you will develop a better awareness of your junk and experience “previously unknown sensations.” As the muscles become stronger, the sensations will become more acute.

I imagine anyone, male or female, practicing anal sex would be interested in these exercises. I, personally, am not into anal so I don’t have any experience in that regard. But whatever you do, even if you’re celibate, these exercises have benefits for your health beyond sex. Enjoy!

Speaking of Popular Culture…

July 23rd, 2010 by Ruth Rambling

Speaking of Kegel exercises and popular culture… Last night I was watching the second season of Arrested Development on the Netflix streaming with the soon-to-be-ex (STBX). It was the first episode of the season and Lindsey catches Tobias exercising his PC (pubococcygeus) muscle to a TV show.

I thought this was pretty rad for a few reasons. For one, it seemed to inspire Lindsey to work out those pelvic floor muscles to the same show. For two, Tobias is a man. To be sure, the writers may have put Tobias in this situation because they thought it was funny given the questionable nature of his sexual orientation and general lack of macho-ness. But really, Tobias was doing something every man should do!

The PC muscles are the same in both men and women. And in both men and women, this muscle weakens with age and disuse. Men who exercise their PC muscles can benefit from stronger, longer-lasting erections as well as improved bladder control and prostrate health.

In my next post, I’ll describe some exercises that both men and women can do to strengthen their PC muscles!

Welcome to Twat Vibe!

July 22nd, 2010 by Ruth Rambling

Welcome to Twat Vibe! The purpose of this blog – well, it gives me a space to talk about one of the most important topics for any woman – or man – sex!

Sex has certainly been on my mind a lot lately. In fact, I think about sex a lot – much more than I used to. It could be because I recently turned 38. It could be because I recently started divorce proceedings. It could be because I haven’t gotten laid in many months… And for the past few years every time I did have sex with my husband, it was, well – the kindest way to say it is – unsatisfying.

At 38 I am supposed to be in my sexual peak as a woman – which is slightly depressing since I’m not interested in sex with my soon-to-be-ex and I don’t want to have sex with anyone else until after the divorce is final. I do plan on having sex again one day, though, and I started thinking about what I want in a partner and what I want to bring to a new sexual relationship.

I came across a book that I think my husband purchased a few years back called Tantra: The Cult of the Feminine by Andre Van Lysebeth and I started to read it. The beginning is a bit dry and more about the spirituality and history of Tantra – so I naturally skipped ahead to the good part. And after the section describing positions and techniques, there were instructions for strengthening your yoni (vagina).

Yes, there are Kegel exercises and all that – but no one had ever described these to me and even my female ObGyn’s never mentioned them as something a woman should do for better sex or even for a woman’s general health. In fact, other than references in popular culture (Family Guy and 30 Rock come to mind) it’s not something that would even come up when talking to my girlfriends about sex. Which is weird because, as every woman knows, those conversations can get rather graphic. It’s not until recently that I even discussed these finer points with some of my closer female friends – and I had to bring up the topic.

Well, that’s what this blog is going to be about – sex and female sexuality and health and anything I can think of that’s related to sex that women should talk about and should feel comfortable discussing. And, of course, whatever else I feel like writing about on a particular day. So, welcome to Twat Vibe. I hope it’s as good for you as it is for me!

Ruth’s Ramblings

July 21st, 2010 by Ruth Rambling

Twat Vibe was started by Ruth Rambling, nom de plume. Ruth had a notion derived after many candid conversations about sex and sexuality with some of her female and gay male friends. She was also frustrated with the surprising lack of information online regarding the pubococcygeus (PC) muscle and Kegel exercises. Yet everyday she receives at least 50 – 100 spam emails promising her a larger penis… go figure…

From that notion – and an anecdote from rock history – Twat Vibe the blog was born. Will anyone read this? Maybe, maybe not. But Ruth gets another outlet for her ramblings on sex, female sexuality and health, and whatever else she feels like writing about.

The 411 on Ruth Rambling
As a young woman, Ruth and Friend published a gossip zine called Ruth’s Ramblings. RR was distributed at the night clubs around West Palm Beach, such as The Foundation and Respectable Street Cafe, where Ruth and Friend were nightly under-aged fixtures circa early 90′s. RR featured poetry and art as well as dishing on club regulars. Good times…
